Sojan Joseph Visit to a Food Lesson
We were delighted to welcome Sojan Joseph (Labour MP for Ashford, Hawkinge and the Villages) into school on 21 November. The visit was facilitated by the Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food Foundation which states, "Jamie knows that if you can teach children to cook deliciously healthy meals at school, they will go on to lead healthier lives. It’s as simple as that." Mr Joseph took part in a Food Preparation and Nutrition lesson aimed at recognising the issues surrounding the sustainability of food and made Jamie Oliver's Salmon Fishcakes along with our D&T Group 9F. Our students were able to learn about the life cycle of fish and sustainable fishing, as well as applying the dietary guideline to eat at least two portions of fish a week, at least one of which should be oily. Thank you to Mr Joseph for his interest in our subject!
