German Christmas Markets
At the very end of November, the German department took 58 Year 8 and 4 Year 12 students by coach and Eurotunnel to the Christmas markets in Köln (Cologne). Mr Beer was a very informative tour guide, showing and telling us about the cathedral, the river Rhein and the old town. Other memorable features included a tour of the Lindt chocolate factory and a presentation at Haus Farina - home of the original Eau de Cologne. However, the real highlight of the trip was the Christmas markets themselves, of course (we went to three different ones). We enjoyed sampling the delicious local cuisine like Bratwurst, Reibekuchen (deep fried potato pancakes) and Kinderpunsch (non alcoholic version of Glühwein - mulled wine) and Frau Gerstlauer had even arranged a Brezel for everyone to try on the coach home. A very enjoyable and memorable cultural experience - albeit a tiring one!
