Music Updates

Bandstand

On Thursday 6 February, a packed audience were treated to a fantastic array of performances as part of our first Bandstand of 2025. The set featured an eclectic range of performances from singer/songwriters to rock bands, and every student who participated was a great example of how hard work and dedication can be translated into incredible performances. Bandstand will return in October 2025!

Gamelan

We were delighted to welcome back Inspire-works this term who brought their genuine Indonesian Gamelan metallophones. All Year 8 classes took part in a workshop and our Year 12 A Level musicians also learnt about how Debussy was inspired by this style of music.

Kidenza Orchestra

On Friday 14 February, we welcomed Kidenza Orchestra who performed to Year 7 and 9 students. They performed a varied programme of classical music including In the Hall of the Mountain King, extracts from The Planets and the Star Wars Theme. It was really inspiring to have professional musicians visit us here at Highworth.

Primary Singing Day

We were delighted to host the Primary Singing Day this term organised by Kent Music. Over 250 children came to enjoy a day of singing. Our Fusion Band performed as the schools were arriving and we loved the fact that all of the primary children sang along to Shake It Off as the final item! Our Highnotes choir also performed to the children after lunch.

Spring Concert

On 27 March, the various musical ensembles of Highworth joined forces to perform a programme 'Celebrating Women in Music'. The performances were superb and were concluded with a rip roaring rendition of It's Oh So Quiet by Bjork. Thank you to all performers and everyone who came to support the event as part of the sold out audience.

West End

In the final full week of term, the Music Department went on not one but two trips to the West End. On Tuesday 1 April, our A Level students went to see Phantom of the Opera to enhance their study of musical theatre and in particular the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Later in the same week, on Thursday, our GCSE students went to see Wicked which features one of their set works, 'Defying Gravity'. It was incredible to see a piece that they have studied in depth performed live by such inspiring professional musicians.
