A Level Biology Trip

For A level Biology practical requirements, Year 12 visited Brockhill Country Park and carried out two experiments using what we learned in our lessons at school. We used line transects and quadrats to count the number of plant species in an area, and used kick sampling in the river to catch freshwater shrimp. At school after we processed the data, we wrote a conclusion and evaluation, and carried out a statistical test (the chi-squared test) with our data to answer the questions ‘Does water depth have an effect on the number of freshwater shrimp?’ and ‘Does distance from a treeline affect plant species distribution?’
