Trip to Berlin
“Across the four days spent in Berlin, the trip covered a large range of topics and time periods which are covered by the A Level content, including opposition, control and consent, the Nazi rise to power and treatment of minorities, particularly Jewish. The visit to Sachsenhausen Memorial was an effective and informative introduction to our coursework on the Holocaust, adding a sense of reality to what we cover, as well as providing some useful information for when our coursework begins. The trip was educational yet concise, with a large variety of information without feeling overwhelming, provided in various settings and forms. Our guide was clear and well-paced, and the trip was an excellent way to introduce various parts of the Germany course in a more realistic and memorable way, visiting various memorials, museums, historic sites and more. It also gave the German students an excellent chance to practise their language skills!” Report by Martha R and Hannah E, Y12
"During our time in Berlin we were given the chance to experience museums and other exhibitions which were both very interesting and helpful in gaining a wider understanding of our current A Level studies.
The trip started off very well (despite having to be in school at 2am!) and although some minor difficulties did arise - we pulled through! Over the three days, we were introduced to the cultural and historical contexts of Berlin in line with areas of our studies. One museum we visited was the Berlin Story 'Hitler- How could it happen?' exhibition. This was a particularly interesting museum as it was done through audio guides with additional information boards. I also found the model set of Hitler's bunker interesting.
Overall, I found the trip extremely fascinating and also really enjoyable and I would recommend it to all future Year 12 History students!" Report by Hannah E, Y12
"From myself, thank you to Mr Phillips, Mr Duncan, Ms Baxter and Miss Murphy for coming with us, and especially to the students for their exemplary behaviour and making our first visit to Berlin one to remember!" Thanks from Mr Clayton, History Teacher
