Imperial War Museum Trip
"Year 9 students were provided with the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum, to further our understanding of the Holocaust. On this trip we were given a digital led tour of the Holocaust Exhibition and Galleries. This tour gave us varying sides and accounts from people who were sent to their death and those who survived, as well as stories from their families. It also gave us the idea of the Nazis' views towards Jews and how persecution turned to mass murder. Some of the hard-hitting images showed the reality of the Holocaust and showed how the Nazis dehumanised the people who they killed. After visiting the Holocaust exhibition, we were given time to visit other galleries and exhibitions around the museum. My group visited the Second World War galleries, where we got to learn about jobs on the Home Front, such as working in munitions factories. We were inspired by these stories of the heroines of the war, as well as the role of women working ‘behind the lines’ and undercover during the war. We also went to the War Games Exhibition which explores how video games tell us about different conflicts around the world. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Lord Ashcroft Gallery: Extraordinary Heroes, which showed us stories of over 250 people performing great acts of bravery in adversity and who received the Victoria Cross for their gallantry."
