Tate Modern and National Gallery Sixth Form Trip
On 5 October 2022, the Art Department took A Level art and photography students to London where we viewed two art galleries. We went to the Tate Modern on the Southbank first where we explored many different contemporary artworks and installations, some of which were immersive experiences combining light, sound and visual effects to create an atmosphere suited to the artwork. There was a combination of paintings, sculptures, photography and film which suited the group that went. Then we took a quick, but wet, walk down the River Thames to the National Gallery. This walk was great for the photography students as they could take inspirational photos of the modern London skyscrapers along with the traditional neoclassical architecture that lines the Thames (even though the weather was not in our favour). The National Gallery holds over 2000 European artworks and amongst them are ones by artists like Van Gogh, Degas, Turner, and Leonardo da Vinci. We as students were encouraged to sketch as many paintings that we could so that we could be inspired for our current projects and potentially use the artworks within the research in our sketchpads.
