British Sign Language
The British Sign Language Club in an opportunity for all years to come together to not only learn a beautiful language, but to learn about and appreciate the struggles that Deaf people face in everyday life. Learning British Sign Language will enable you to communicate with Deaf people; neighbours, friends, grandparents etc, contributing to a society where Deaf people are included. It will also mean that you are able to put on your CV that you know basic sign language and therefore could have a conversation with a Deaf or hard of hearing person. We start by learning how to sign the alphabet, animals, subjects at school etc, as well as have conversations in sign language. You will learn some beautiful songs and have the opportunity to sign these alongside the Highworth choir during some of their performances.
