Houses of Parliament Trip

We started in Parliament and enjoyed a very interesting tour of the Houses of Parliament. Entering via the royal area, we passed through some historical chambers full of intricate detail and gold leaf. Then we passed into the Houses of Lords, and gained a greater understanding of the functions of the upper chamber, before heading into the main foyer of the parliament. There we saw some famous MPs as they headed into the commons for PMQs, but this did mean that unfortunately on this occasion we did not get to enter the Commons chamber.

We did a workshop on snap elections where we got to come up with our own policies and hold an election amongst us. We met the MP for Ashford, Sojan Joseph MP, and got a valuable opportunity to meet and interview him about issues facing the government as a whole and specifically our Ashford Constituency.  We then walked over to the Supreme Court and got toured around the courts as well as learning what the purpose and functions of the Supreme Court are. We then went down to the Justice Courts Privy Council which handles foreign law referrals and took part in reenacting a past case. Finally we got the opportunity to watch some of a case in action before taking the train home.
