Court Mock Trial Competition
“Court Rise! On Saturday 3 June, the Year 8 and 9 Court Mock Trial team competed in a friendly competition at the London final of this year’s Magistrate’s Court Mock Trial Competition which was held at Lincoln’s Inn in central London. Before getting to this point, the team had spent many lunchtimes practising and perfecting skills in advocacy and persuasive argument.
The competition was fierce with arguments put forward by the prosecution and defence sides keen to persuade the magistrates of the innocence or guilt of the defendant who had been accused of daubing ‘Planet over Profit’ onto the wall of the Y Energy offices in Nuffborough. Witnesses provided crucial evidence and the legal advisors and ushers oversaw the trial proceedings and ensured order in the courtroom.
Although Highworth did not win overall, just missing out I am sure by the smallest of point differences, the team’s performance was polished and professional and made Mr Moore and me extremely proud.”
