Holocaust Education Trust Talk
Year 9 and Year 12 Historians attended a talk from Maralyn Turgel of the Holocaust Education Trust, who was sharing the story of her late father, Sam Gardner, who survived the Holocaust and almost three years of incarceration by the Nazis.
Maralyn charted her father's journey from his early life in Poland, the ghetto, concentration camps, close shaves with death and eventually liberation and his later life. One Year 9 student said that "it was an absolutely amazing experience to be able to listen to Maralyn and her father's story, and it has given me more information about what the Holocaust experience was like for those who were continuously travelling between the camps, and how many people suffered after the war was over."
This was a poignant experience for the students who were able to find out in depth about one of the millions of personal experiences of the Holocaust, bringing a stark reality and humanity to the statistics on an individual basis.
